Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was announced at the PlayStation State of Play event. And fans have been looking forward to seeing what Square Enix has in store for them. It features an even more ambitious storyline, expanding into areas like The Forgotten Capital from the original game. While the Rebirth project is an ambitious one, the devs have mentioned that the game size will be a massive 150GB for the PlayStation 5.
The substantial size of the game comes from the amount of detail Square Enix has put into the upcoming reboot. With the game set to release on February 29, 2024, fans can see the new direction the studio is taking with the series. However, with the game size being concerning, the devs have also mentioned it won’t be on just one disc. But does that help?

Square Enix confirmed that they will distribute the game across two physical discs. One disc will contain 100 GB of game data, and the other 50 GB. Players will initially have to use both discs to install the game. Once players complete the installation, they can keep one disc aside and use only the other one to play the game.

Although the original Final Fantasy VII required players to swap discs during gameplay, the devs have mentioned that won’t be the case this time. The devs stated that the decision to split the game between two discs was to pursue their creative vision to the fullest extent possible. And while size could have potentially set back the game, the studio chose to retain all the content regardless of the storage space the game required.
