Living up to the legacy of Charles Martinet as the voice of Mario won’t be easy. However, the beloved character needs a new voice. And who better than an already loved voice in the gaming industry to take over? An actor who voiced a much-loved character in Final Fantasy 16 has taken over the internet with an audition clip.

Two days back, Nintendo had left the community heartbroken after confirming the news of Charles Martinet stepping down as the voice artist for Mario. While they confirmed that Martinet would be taking a new role in the Japanese gaming company, there was no word on who would lend their voice next. However, a Final Fantasy star has come forward to make a strong case.

After ruling the Mario-verse as the titular character, as well as Luigi, for over four decades, Charles Martinet has taken up a new role as the global ambassador for Mario. Starr responded to Nintendo’s notice with an audition tape for the role. Moreover, the actor gave a Final Fantasy twist, making it an interesting fusion of both. “It’s a-me, Mario,” Starr’s rendition of the iconic catchphrase, is repeated as though he’s ready to shatter your kneecaps. Fans were persuaded by this riveting clip that the latter merits a fair shot at the part. Of course, fans didn’t see the f-bombs coming.

Nintendo has different plans

A few artists who seem to be in the race to play the Italian plumber are Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Trey Parker, and Chris Pratt. Pratt incidentally voiced Mario in the recent The Super Mario Bros Movie. It is believed that Seth McFarlane is currently a fan favorite among the contenders. Although sources suggest Nintendo has already decided on the next voice of Mario, fans will have to wait for an official word. Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be released in October 2023. And who will voice Mario then remains to be seen.
