The war for Call of Duty between Microsoft and Sony has recently taken a new turn. Not to mention that the latest development has made the overall situation even more complicated, to say the least. The Xbox maker is definitely not impressed with how the UK regulator is handling things right now.
This was seen recently seen after Microsoft responded to a survey from CMA. The UK regulator had conducted a survey regarding how the deal between the Xbox maker and Activision will affect Sony’s PlayStation user base in relation to Call of Duty. And it looks like the results were quite unbelievable for Microsoft to accept. Hence, it came up with its own survey in order to counter the regulator’s claims. However, when it comes to the gaming community, people have mixed feelings about the $68.7 billion proposed acquisition.

A reputed reporter from a popular media outlet recently took to Twitter to reveal interesting details related to Microsoft and Sony’s fight over COD. He mentioned that “Microsoft in January found that just 3% of all PlayStation users would switch to buying an Xbox if Microsoft pulled Call of Duty from PlayStation”. This is based on a copy the company provided to the media outlet.
Exclusive: Microsoft believes the UK's competition regulator has overestimated the amount of Call of Duty fans who'd leave PlayStation for Xbox if Microsoft took CoD from Sony–and has survey results they say prove it

Now, this survey is completely opposite to what CMA has tried to show. The regulator’s own survey, conducted last December, revealed that 15 percent of “avid Call of Duty PlayStation players (playing at least 10 hours or spending at least $100 on the series in the past year) would switch to Xbox”.

Clearly, it seems like the UK regulator is leaving no stone unturned in blocking the deal, at least that’s what Microsoft believes. CMA’s decision on the proposed acquisition of Activision will come on April 26th, 2023.
Meanwhile, the gaming community is in splits over how Call of Duty has been a driving factor in the entire situation. According to some, Sony has nothing to worry about since COD is a multiplatform IP. They believe that it will stay on all devices no matter what.
What's funny is that none of that matters since CoD is multiplatform. But even if 15% or 10% swapped, Sony would still have the market lead by a considerable margin.

It’s not even relevant because it’s staying multiplat

On the other hand, there are those who think COD is overrated now and doesn’t hold that much value. Especially in terms of being something to fight for in a deal worth billions of dollars. “Let’s be fair. No one is going to jump ship over COD…like that’s just dumb”, wrote one user.
I mean, did they? Let's be fair. No one is going to jump ship over COD…like that's just dumb.
