The upcoming Game of the Year award is receiving a huge round of speculation from the gaming community. Well, this year has some really good competitors trying to take the title. Many studios have put out arguably some of the best games fans have seen so far. The Game of the Year award judges games across all gaming platforms. This means that many titles across platforms could win the title.

Just weeks before announcing the Game of the Year, the official Twitter page of The Game Awards made a post asking the fans what games they think will make the list this year. This sparked a frenzy among fans and over 1.7 thousand fans made their prediction.

Who could be nominated for the title?

Among all the predictions from the fans, there were a few names that stood out. This year, Insomniac Games dropped Spider-Man 2 which received a meta critic of XX. The day the game was released, many predicted it to be nominated for the GOTY. But that’s not the AAA title that fans have their eyes on. Final Fantasy XVI was released and it is to be noted that it was nominated to be The Game Award for Most Anticipated Game last year.

Although Microsoft Studios’ Starfield did not reach Universal acclaim according to Metacritic. Many players have had nothing other than good words to say about the game. For gamers who are not all about space, Baldur’s Gate 3 might be a popular choice. This game had everyone surprised when it got a score of 98 when it initially launched but now stands at a strong score of 96. Alan Wake 2 is also a strong competitor, being one of the most acclaimed horror survivor games there is.

Nintendo is also a big runner in this race. Super Mario Bros. Wonder brings back the side scroller platformer back in 2023. The game has won hearts all over and got a Metascore of 92. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is another game that Nintendo is getting a lot of love for. Tears of the Kingdom pushed things further and scored 96 on Metacritic.

The Game Awards introduced the Game of the Year awards in 2014, making this the 10th year of the prestigious accolade. Iconic games from 2023 are contenders for the title of the best game of the year. While this specific version of the Game of the Year began in 2014, Geoff Keighley, the person overseeing it, had been involved with the previously known Spike Video Game Awards for over a decade.

Game of the Year 2023 predictions

In the post, the fans shared their ideas about who could win the game of the year. Among the many games that were released this year, it’s clear that some were always expected to make the list. This is easily noticed in the following comments.

The most viewed comment predicted Baldur’s Gate 3 to be the top nominee for the award. Other games mentioned were Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, Final Fantasy XVI, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and lastly Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Another gamer predicted almost the same games as above while removing Resident Evil 4 Remake and replacing it with Armored Core 6. They also predicted that the winner could be Baldur’s Gate 3 which was an easy choice to pick for them.

Most of the games looked the same on the next list, except for there being Super Mario Bros. Wonder added to it while taking out Final Fantasy.

Another gamer predicted Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Lies of P by Neowiz Games, FFXVI, Remenant 2, Armored Core 6, and Star Wars Jedi Survivor.

This gamer suggested some similar games to the ones we have seen so far and included Starfield and Dead Space.
