Scenario 1: The Baby is Born in Japan

If PewDiePie and Marzia were to have a baby in Japan, the child could potentially hold both Japanese and foreign nationality. Those born in a foreign country or to foreign national parents are eligible for multiple nationalities.

However, it is important to note that individuals with multiple nationalities are required to make a choice of nationality by a certain age limit. This decision is necessary as it prevents potential diplomatic conflicts that may arise from competing rights or obligations in each respective country and ensures clear family relationships.

In Japan, individuals with multiple nationalities must choose their nationality when they reach 20 years of age if they became a multiple national before 18 years of age, or within two years of becoming a multiple national at the age of 18 years or more. If the choice of nationality is not made within the specified time limit, multiple nationals may be requested by the Minister of Justice to make a choice and may risk losing Japanese nationality in some cases.

Scenario 2: The Baby is Born in The United States of America

If somehow the couple decides to visit America for their child’s birth, then also the baby will be eligible for dual citizenship. According to U.S. laws, a child born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or parents may automatically acquire American citizenship at birth, as long as certain requirements are met.

It is worth mentioning that U.S. law does not mention dual nationality or requires an individual to choose one nationality over another. As such, a U.S. citizen may naturalize in a foreign state without any risk to their U.S. citizenship. This means that PewDiePie and Marzia’s baby would be able to hold both American and Japanese citizenship.

Scenario 3: The Baby is Born in Sweden

If PewDiePie and Marzia were to have the baby in Sweden, the child would be eligible for Swedish citizenship by birth, as long as at least one of the parents is a Swedish citizen. This means that the baby would automatically acquire Swedish citizenship at birth.

It is worth mentioning that, in contrast to the U.S., the laws in Sweden do mention dual nationality and may require individuals to choose one nationality over another. However, the specifics of this requirement would depend on the individual circumstances and laws in effect at the time of the child’s birth.

When will PewDiePie become a father?

Assuming Marzia gave PewDiePie the news of her pregnancy in November 2022, the baby’s birth month would be August 2023. This calculation is made using a standard pregnancy length of 280 days, counting from the first day of the last menstrual period.
