Starfield Armors have unique modification features that make up the unique look for each player. However, these armors aren’t just to show off your customization skills, they are the first line of defense against everything within the universe. Long-time gamers are no strangers to armor, but the options to choose from in Starfield may get even the most seasoned players confused.

There is an array of options to choose your desired armor. Each armor set can be designed by the players who can mix and match as much as they wish. However, if you join any faction that dominates different regions of space, you will likely bear some sort of mark or sigil of your group. The relics you acquire along your journies can be gifted to your allies who in return ensure your protection.

All Starfield armors will be equipped with protective headgear and a spacesuit, with many giving you specialized protection against elements. Other suits are likely to be more generic that offer base-level protection irrespective of what you will be facing during the adventures.

Bethesda has announced details on some armor sets from the upcoming game. Here are some of the announced sets that are likely to be used by most of the players:

  • Explorer
  • Mercenary
  • Recon
  • Constellation
  • Space Trucker and
  • Navigator

How can character backgrounds make a difference?

With over 1,000 planets to explore, players are most likely to encounter at least some undesirable characters on their voyages. The armored suits also ensure that you have a fighting chance when stumbling upon a blood-thirsty mercenary. Bethesda games have a long history of providing armor to players that protect each part of their bodies.

Worn over a base skin, the armors will make sure your head, limbs, or chest are kept as safe as possible. Each player on Starfield will be required to choose a desired background for their characters. Some background options include Cyber Runner, Combat Medic, Explorer, and Chef. While many of these backgrounds offer some basic level of protection, the armor is essential for survival in treacherous and unknown lands.

Value and mass for different armor

During the Showcase, Bethesda also revealed that each armor will have different mass and values. Bethesda has implemented armor settings from their previous titles where a player’s body mass becomes critical to decide what type of armor they can suit up with. However, the allowance for this may be tweaked to some degree so that players can try on better protective gear for added safety. Heavier armor mass slows the movement when on a planet with low gravity levels.

Players will also have to decide on what to do with their armor suits when they will be considering an upgrade. A designated value is attached to each armor, which can be the deciding factor on whether to sell or scrap the armor set.

Armor Capabilities

Armors in Starfield have differing degrees of damage resistance from different enemies or elements. Starfield armors have different parameters to define their damage reduction specialties. Some of these will include

  • PHYS (resistance to melee weapons)
  • EM (protection against electromagnetic weapons) and
  • ENG (safety against energy weapons)

Starfield armor suits will also function as a shield against natural elements on distant planets that include protection against corrosion and radiation. Some armors will also make the players resist severely high temperatures for prolonged periods, so they can get around a planet without having to break a sweat.
