PlayStation hits at yet another game studio under its wing. Several workers and employees of Deviation Games have shared the ordeal on social media sites. So far, no solid reason for the layoffs has been made public. According to the insider’s reports, the studio had been having a tough time keeping itself afloat.

PlayStation could be seen making some serious layoffs in its studios. This was the second major workforce cut by Sony PlayStation that has been reported in recent months. Deviation Games was working on an original IP for Sony. Many believe, however, this cutoff was caused by the potential cancellation of the project.

Ex-employees of Deviation Games have been flocking to social media platforms and job portals to announce their departure from the studio. Looking at the post, it could be seen that the cut-offs have affected programmers, designers, engineers, and more. No official statement has been published by Sony regarding this layoff.

Principal Technical Artist at Deviation Games, Christopher “Berryman” Berry, wrote on LinkedIn, “A bunch of my colleagues and friends were laid off from the Deviation Games today. If any recruiters have open positions, please consider hiring some of these wickedly talented folks!” Berry also didn’t share any reasons behind the layoffs.

Back in 2021, Deviation’s workforce was “over 100 strong,” but, as reported by VGC, an insider had informed them that the company had almost laid off over 90 workers. Studio is currently working on an original IP for Sony. But some experts believe this project may have been canceled by PlayStation, which could have caused the firings.

Only a few days ago, another massive layoff drive surfaced from Sony. Another PlayStation-backed company, Final Strike Games, had let go of a big chunk of its workforce. According to the reports, Final Strike had lost 40% of its workforce after a sci-fi live-service shooter was canceled by Sony PlayStation.

PlayStation’s latest acquisition has come at a cost, with the layoffs at Deviation Games being the second major workforce reduction by Sony in recent months. While the reasons behind these layoffs remain unclear, it is clear that this has affected many talented individuals.
