Nintendo’s GameCube became something of a legend following its disastrous launch back in 2001, and fans still remember it. On 23rd Nov 2021, Xbox hosted an event called Xbox Pioneers: Creativity & Innovation- Past, Present & Future.
Xbox hosted this event as part of its 20th-anniversary celebrations. And basically, it was to share the journey of the company since its birth back in 2001.
The host of the event was non-other than Reggie Fils-Aimé. During the event, Reggie recalled choosing to buy Xbox over GameCube way before joining Nintendo.

For the fans who are not familiar with Reggie Fils-Aimé, he is the ex-president and COO of Nintendo of America. Here’s what Reggie Fils-Aimé said in the interview:
“When Xbox launched, I wasn’t in the industry, so I was a consumer. And I was that prototypical consumer that had a PS2 in my house already,” he said.
“My son, avid gamer, was the one saying ‘we need to check out this Xbox thing, and we need to go’ and the driver was Halo. The driver was Halo, and that experience is what got the original Xbox into my house,” he added.
An interesting story from a man who’d go on to be associated with Nintendo.
Why was Reggie there?
The event began with Reggie introducing himself. And just after that, he mentioned how people must be thinking about what the ex-president and COO of Nintendo was doing at the Xbox event. And it seemed like no one had an answer, not even him. He indicated that he himself had little idea what he was doing there, as the people at the event broke into laughter.
