Game Freak and The Pokemon Company tried introducing many new features to the game, like new Pokemons, Terastallizing, and the open-world setting. These two games also introduced lots of new Pokemon Abilities in the game.
What are Pokemon Abilities?
Ability is a feature that the developers introduced in the third-generation games. These helped the players to experience better gameplay during battles by offering a special effect. But these abilities can provide an upper hand or be an annoyance in a fight.
Players spend hours searching for the Pokemon with the desired personality. If a player gets a Pocket Monster with an unwanted personality, they can’t change it. But these unique creatures can change their Abilities upon evolution.
All new Abilities in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are the first installments of the ninth generation of games in the famous Pokemon series. The two new titles are set in the Paldea region, where players can find many Pokemon, including new and old. Players can find Pokemon with 31 new Abilities. Let’s get to know more about them.

| Ability | Effect |
Anger Shell | This Ability is unique to Klawf, but it should get angry by an attack that causes its HP to drop more than half. Anger Shell provides Attack, Special Attack, and Speed boost while sacrificing some Defense and Special Defense stat. |
Armor Tail | Opponent Pocket Monster would be unable to use a priority move because of a mysterious tail covering the player Pokemon’s head. Seeing the requirement for this Ability, it’s limited to Farigiraf. |
Beads of Ruin | The Pokemon with a ruinous bead can have the power to lower the Special Defense stats of all Pokemon around itself. This one is also exclusive to Chi-Yu. |
Commander | It is a unique power Ability limited to Tatsugiri, where the small Dragon/Water-type sits inside the mouth of an ally Dondozo on the field and attacks from there. |
Coaster | Flamigo is the only Pokemon with this Ability that it uses upon entering a battlefield. It helps Flamigo to copy an ally’s stat changes. |
Cud Chew | A Pokemon with this Ability can use a held berry twice in a battle by regurgitating it. Only Farigiraf and Tauros can have this Ability. |
Earth Eater | It is Orthworm’s Ability where it gets the HP restored upon getting hit by a Ground-type move. |
Electromorphosis | Bellibolt has this Ability to get charged when taking damage and then uses it to power up its next Electric-type move. |
Good as Gold | Gholdengo is the only Pokemon with this Ability which provides the Pokemon with immunity to the opponent’s status moves. |
Guard Dog | A Mabosstiff can be found with this skill. It helps the Pokemon to not get intimidated and nullifies the effect of a move that forces it to switch out. |
Hadron Engine | This one turns the ground into Electric Terrain when the Miraidon enters a battle and also gives it a boost in Special Attack on the Electric Terrain. However, only Violet’s legendary mascot Pokemon can use it. |
Lingering Aroma | This is Oinkologne’s Ability that changes the opponent’s Ability to Lingering Aroma too. |
Mycelium Might | The Pokemon will always act more slowly when using status moves, but its moves will be unimpeded by the Ability of the target. But only Toedscool and its evolution Toedscruel can use it. |
Opportunist | An Espathra can get the same stat boost as its opponent using this unique Ability limited to this Psychic-type. |
Orichalcum Pulse | Not only Miraidon but Scarlet’s legendary mascot Koraidon also has an exclusive Ability called Orichalcum Pulse. It makes the sunlight harsh when Koraidon enters a battle and increases its Attack stat. |
Protosynthesis | This Ability provides a boost to Pokemon’s most proficient stat in harsh sunlight or if it’s holding a Booster Energy. Many Titans in Pokemon Scarlet can be found with this unique skill. |
Purifying Salt | Nacli and its two evolution can use this Ability, where they use pure salt to protect themselves from any status conditions while halving the damage from a Ghost-type attack. |
Quark Drive | This Ability has a similar effect to Protosynthesis. Instead of harsh sunlight, it works in Electric Terrain or holding a Booster Energy. Many Titans in Pokemon Violet can be found with this unique skill. |
Rocky Payload | Bombirdier is the only one with this Ability that powers up Rock-type moves. |
Seed Sower | Arboliva is the only one who can use it to turn the ground into Grassy Terrain when hit by an attack. The special Terrain boosts up Grass-type moves. |
Sharpness | Pokemon with this Ability has stronger slicing moves like Air Cutter and Slash. |
Supreme Overlord | It is Kingambit’s skill that activates when it enters a fight. This Ability boosts the Attack and Special Attack stats of the already fainted Pokemon in the party. |
Sword of Ruin | Chien-Pao has this Ability where the power of its ruinous sword lowers the Defense stats of all Pokemon around itself. |
Tablets of Ruin | Wo-Chien can use this skill by using its ruinous wooden tablets to decrease the Attack of every Pokemon around itself. |
Thermal Exchange | Frigibax and its two evolutions can use this exclusive skill to boost the Attack stat when attacked by a Fire-type move. Further, the Pokemons don’t get burned using it. |
Toxic Debris | It is a special power limited to Glimmet and Glimmora. The two Pokemon can spread toxic spikes around the opposition’s feet after receiving damage from physical moves. |
Vessel of Ruin | Ting-Lu can use this Ability with the help of its ruinous vessel to decrease the Special Attack of every Pokemon except itself. |
Well-Baked Body | Dachsbun can use this Ability that provides it immunity to Fire-type moves. Instead, increases the Defense upon taking one. |
Wind Power | Wattrel and its evolution Kilowattrel can use to charge their next Electric-type move upon taking damage from a wind move. |
Wind Rider | Bramblin and its evolution Brambleghast can use it to boost its Attack stat upon taking damage from wind move. Further, it develops immunity to wind moves. |
Zero to Hero | This Ability is exclusive to Palafin. Using it, the Pokemon can transform into its Hero form when switches out in a battle. |
