Over the years, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, has been the biggest yearly showcase of all things computers and video games. The biggest developers used to book a hall inside the E3 grounds to showcase their new and upcoming releases.

With the rise of digital game showcases and Corona, this Expo skipped a year or two when that epidemic was in its prime. And when the threat of the Coronavirus lessened to some extent, everything went back to normal, except for E3 itself.

And now a recent rumor suggests E3 might have been laid to rest forever. How true is this statement, though?

One by one, every single one of the participants decided to pull out of E3. They did so in favor of their own digital showcases. Microsoft did the Xbox Games Showcase, Ubisoft did Ubiforward, and Sony too went for a digital PlayStation 5 showcase. These last-minute changes in plans really seem to have hurt the organizers of the E3 convention. Hence, the rumor started that this show would not see a day of light anymore.

Recently, gamesindustry.biz reported that the jury is still out on whether ESA would want to continue holding this event every year. The rumors of E3’s cancellation for years 2024 and 2025 seem to be wrong for now.

It remains to be seen how they would convince the platform holders and developers to participate in E3. Here’s hoping they succeed too. The existence of Platform holders such as Nintendo or PlayStation would act as a magnet for smaller developers and publishers.
