Bethesda is really hard at work nowadays. Firstly, they are working on Xbox’s most anticipated game of the year, Starfield, and secondly, they are starting the initial work on The Elder Scrolls VI. This is going to be the sequel to one of the last generation’s most successful games, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

While fans are already eagerly anticipating Starfield, they have no idea what Bethesda is planning for the sequel to Skyrim. But if recent rumors are correct, a big change might be coming to that series.

While fans eagerly await Bethesda’s sci-fi western RPG Starfield to make an appearance in all its glory, a lot is happening behind the scenes. The developer has started laying out the blueprint for their next game, Elder Scrolls VI, the sequel to their 2011 blockbuster Skyrim.

Of course, that game would not be set in Skyrim this time around, and of course, it would be significantly larger than any other game at that point in time, as that’s what companies do nowadays: make their games larger and larger. But one thing that they would add to it, and that is pretty unexpected by all counts, is a multiplayer mode.

This was revealed by a recent job posting at Zenimax, calling out level designers with “strong familiarity with a variety of open-world multiplayer games,” and “experience with The Elder Scrolls Construction Set or GECK.”

Now one rational Elder Scrolls fan would say find it interesting. While another more rational Elder Scrolls fan would remember Fallout 76. Some would wonder if there is even a need for such an addition to this series. And the series has a spinoff, Elder Scrolls Online, to scratch that multiplayer itch for players too. And it’s doing well too; why would Bethesda take this decision?

Is this enforced by Zenimax or Microsoft? Or is this speculation even true? That job posting could mean just about anything. Maybe people are reading too much into it. It would be years before any of these things could be made clear, though; till then, it is recommended fans just enjoy Starfield!
