Pokemon Cards have recently been trending again. While the original craze from the 90s was all about collecting cards, today those cards are worth quite some money. Recently, a lot of influencers and celebrities are getting into Pokemon cards, with Logan Paul spending millions on the packs with a possible holographic Charizard in them.

As the trend of collecting Pokemon cards is resurfacing, more celebrities like Justin Bieber and Steve Aoki are getting into collecting. While these pieces of cardboard have no value to some, others see thousands of dollars worth in them. One dad of a family almost threw out their card collection before being stopped by his daughter and avoiding a big loss.

The daughter saves the family $36,000 in Pokemon Cards

An 81-year-old man in the UK was clearing out a room for his terminally ill wife, and as part of the cleanup process, he intended to throw away his old Pokémon card collection. The man’s daughter intervened, believing that the Pokémon cards might be valuable. She was aware of the potential worth because she and her father had collected the cards in the late 1990s.

The man had accumulated his collection by taking his grandchild into town to purchase Pokémon cards when the child was growing up. This activity became a special bonding experience for them. Among the cards that were almost discarded, a sealed Fourth Print Base Set Booster Box was discovered. This particular box had been released only in the UK.

The family realized that the cards, including the sealed box, could have significant value. While some cards had already been thrown away, the sealed box remained intact. It’s revealed that all five of the man’s children had a sealed box of Pokémon cards, which they had purchased in 1999.

Plans to auction it at Derby’s Hansons Auctioneers

The sealed box of cards will be auctioned off at Derby’s Hansons Auctioneers later in October. In a previous auction in 2021, a similar box had sold for an impressive $36,000. The family plans to split the money they make from the auction of the sealed box among themselves. The auction house is also hopeful that this collection will bring a substantial sum.

Like they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. In this case, it was the daughter who noticed the treasure that the father of the house almost discarded. While it’s not uncommon for people to lose their childhood Pokemon cards, the fact that they had a Sealed box from 1999, makes it more worth auctioning.

It is only some hards that hold significant value and when it comes to sealed boxes, they lose value as soon as they are opened, unless someone gets lucky with a card. The price of $36,000 might sound absurd to many but it is to be noted that the one lucky card in the set could be worth many times the whole sealed set.
