Elden Ring: How the Latest DLC ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ May Unravel the Story of Miquella

The 2022 “Game of the Year” is finally back to welcome the fans into the grim fantastical world of the ‘lands between’. Recently on Twitter, Elden Ring announced the much-awaited DLC for the game. The ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ is currently in development. Ever since the Launch the community has ‘risen’ to its prime once again.  

Hordes of speculations and theories have been circulating all over the internet, all based on a single image that has been revealed with the announcement tweet. In this promotional image, there is a mysterious blond individual riding the spectral steed ‘Torrent’ towards an alleged ‘Withering Erdtree’. 

Elden Ring DLC will finally pour light on the Miquella story

There have been a lot of theories floating around. However, below we have discussed some of the most plausible speculations regarding the story of the Elden Ring DLC.

Who is the Blonde individual? 

At first glance, the unsuspecting fan may think the Blonde feminine character riding the spectral steed is none other than Queen Marika. This is a possibility, but the answer is never so simple when it comes to Fromsoft’s works. Some of the expert lore masters of Elden ring in the community have pointed out that, this individual is actually prince Miquella.

The individual appears to be very Young, which is also another reason to connect them to the Prince. Miquella, son of Marika, is cursed with ‘eternal youth’, which means they will always be stuck in their childhood. Also, there are statues of Miquella all over Lands Between that depict the physical appearance of the Prince, which are very similar to the individual in the image. 

Who was the previous owner of Torrent?

In the image, it can be seen clearly that the Blonde individual is riding a steed, who is none other than the Spectral Steed, Torrent, that the players in the base game receive as their primary mode of travel. Players receive Torrent from the mysterious witch Ranni. Who also bestows the Tarnish with three wolf spirits. She says she had received these wolves from Torrent’s previous owner.

There is a statue in the ‘lands between’ that depicts Prince Miquella surrounded by three wolves, who are supposed to be his loyal companions. It is believed that these three wolves are the same as the spirits and the previous owner of Torrent is Miquella himself.

 

If that is the case then, showing Miquella riding Torrent could mean that the story of the DLC may be set in the past. Before Torrent met the Tarnished and the events of Elden Ring took place.

Looking at all these points, it could be said quite positively that the DLC will bring more clarity to the mysterious ‘forever young’ prince of the ‘lands between’, Miquella. And knowing how closely associated Miquella is with his elder brother, Godwyn the Golden, the first Demi-God to be killed, it could be expected that the DLC may also put some light on his side of the story.
