The Golden Joystick Awards are just around the corner, and the Game of the year award nominees have already been announced. Many of those names are not surprising at all, but what’s surprising is that three of those nominees are PlayStation first-party exclusives, including God of war: Ragnarök, and that’s not a small feat.

Here’s the List of games Nominated for Game of the year 2022

Elden Ring:

The latest game from the makers of the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne, Elden Ring broke several records at launch and quickly became a favorite for critics and gamers. It has a 96% Metacritic score and is one of the top contenders for the GOTY award this year.

Return to Monkey Island:

Latest in long-running point-and-click adventure titles, Return to Monkey Island surprised everyone with its release and then its quality. If critics are to be believed, this game lives up to its predecessors and then some.

Gran Tourismo 7:

The series is known for its realistic cars, lifelike tracks, and immersive feel. People tend to forget they are playing a game while driving a car in Gran Tourismo, and that’s precisely the kind of experience GT7 offers. Maybe that’s why it’s on this list.

Teardown:

A physics-based puzzle action-adventure heist game that just gives you the mission and leaves everything else to you. You plan to demolish or do anything. The only rule is that you complete the mission. This kind of freedom gave this game depth unlike any other.

Horizon Forbidden West:

After Horizon Zero Dawn’s story’s conclusion, people were left wondering if the Guerilla Games could ever match it. Guerilla games were fast to answer this question with Forbidden West, a game that looks better, plays better, has a better story, and basically tops the first game in every way.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3:

Nintendo and Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a game that not everyone would have played, but it is the kind of game that everyone should. It’s a JRPG in every sense, and it’s very good at being an open-world JRPG. Its characters are deep, it has a fun combat system and its environments are as beautiful as ever.

Immortality:

An Interactive Film about the mystery of a missing actress. Designed by Sam Barlow, designer of Silent Hill origins and Shattered dimensions, this game actually lives up to its creator’s legacy. It’s a mysterious and shocking mystery thriller that everyone should experience. Even though it is not a traditional game, its being interactive puts it on this list.

Bayonetta 3:

The famous witch is back in her latest adventure, where she once again is seen fighting supernatural forces to save the world as we know it. And this is Bayonetta’s grandest adventure yet. Full of huge bosses, and stylized action sequences, Hideki Kamiya, has left no stone unturned in making this game an unforgettable experience for its players.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope:

A strategy game like no other, featuring Mario and his unlikely companions Rabbids. It is every bit as quirky and silly as you can imagine a Rabbids game to be.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2:

The Latest Call of Duty, Modern Warfare II, features a grounded, realistic campaign and its series’ signature fast-paced action heavy multiplayer.

God of War: Ragnarok:

Kratos’ latest adventure with his “Boy” Atreus, and a conclusion to the story arc started with God of War 2018. This game has everything that made the first one so good and more.

Neon White:

A fast-paced first-person action game that looks like an anime that you can control. Just a combination of these two things makes it enticing, and when you play it and realize that it is actually as fun as it’s unique, you understand why it was nominated for a GOTY.

The Two Titans: God of War and Elden Ring

Now, this is a long list, for sure. The only thing is that most people see this year’s GOTY as a direct competition between God of War: Ragnarok and Elden Ring. Now it is not for us to say who might win this, but we can confidently tell our readers that both these games deserve to be on this list. They have set a milestone in level design, storytelling, and combat in their unique way.
