When it comes to the apex review platform, Metacritic, then Elden Ring has opened with a mindboggling rating. The fantasy RPG, as of the time of writing, has a score of 97 for PS5, based on 44 critic reviews. For the PC platform, it has a rating of 95 based on 35 critic reviews.
Now that it’s almost certain that Elden Ring is on course to witness a massive opening, its performance might present an inevitable threat for other games. Especially the second big release of February, Horizon Forbidden West, that arrived last week amidst amazing critical reactions.
Another big game to arrive in 2022 is surely going to be the sequel to Nintendo’s 2017 blockbuster, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Similar to the Switch-exclusive Zelda 2, Elden Ring is an open-world epic as well.

And while it may be too early to speculate, ER’s open-world exploration might turn out to be one of the key reasons players would like to stick to it. Even if Zelda 2 comes out with all its glory, it will have to stay above the performance of ER, at least going by the review scores at the moment.
All said and done, 2022 is definitely the year of some of the best video games fans will ever see.
Elden Ring arrives on Friday, February 25. It will be available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
