This was even more interesting as the team that DRX defeated was none other than League of Legends evergreen champion T1. Therefore, it can be said that the South Korean team not just created a name for itself but also created history as well.

DRX defies the odds by winning the League of Legends championship

In the recent League of Legends world championship 2022, the finale held on November 6, 2022, was a memorable event for the South Korean team DRX as they won the match against the former League of Legends champions, T1. The match seemed as if it was a David vs Goliath story come true.

Notably, the newly made champion from South Korea DRX has been trying to win this championship for the past 10 years. Apparently, T1’s star player ‘Faker’ ambushed DRX several times during the course of the match, but unfortunately, his tactics were not enough to hold the South Korean champions back.

DRX, the “team that was not supposed to be at Worlds” took the longer route, starting with the Play-ins in Mexico, where they went unbeaten (5-0) in Group B, giving them the top seed moving into Group Stage.

How did the match go?

Apart from the fact that DRX is the first play-in team to win against T1, it is also to be notated that they won by only one round landing the score of 3-2. This has made it really memorable as a few rounds prior, everyone felt that T1 will remain the undefeated champions this year too.

But surprisingly, this was not the case as DRX became the dark horse and after so many years of blood and sweat along with rigorous training, strategizing, and recalibrating, the game was won by South Korean champions DRX.
