In recent years, first-person shooter and action games have become extremely famous. Over millions of people play games like Call of Duty, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Grand Theft Auto, and Cyberpunk 2077. Since these shooter games rose into the spotlight, they have been facing various allegations and criticisms.
Donald Trump blames video games for violence
There have been multiple cases of violent shootings throughout the United States of America. Even during Trump’s reign, there were such cases. After one such incident, the former American president addressed these violent shootings and blamed video games as the cause of these crimes.
Former POTUS, Donald Trump claimed, “We must stop the glorification of violence in our society. This includes the gruesome and grisly video games that are now commonplace. It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence. We must stop or substantially reduce this, and it has to begin immediately.”
Many other politicians also joined Trump in supporting this claim. However, in 2018, a survey revealed video games don’t promote violence. Instead, they have a positive contribution to society. The survey proved that video games help people relieve stress and have fun. They are also used for educational purposes.
Trump once made an appearance in a video game
Despite the former American president being against video games, the irony is that he featured in one. In 2002, Donald Trump was part of a video game by Activision, “Donald Trump’s Real Estate Tycoon.” It was a real estate simulation game where the players had to manage properties across five cities and grow stronger to replace Trump as a real estate tycoon.

Further, the former American president appears throughout the game to explain to the player about real estate and also to congratulate the player’s in-game achievements. It was fascinating to know the man who claimed video games to be the reason for violence, once featured in one. But then again, Trump talked about gruesome and grisly video games. This real estate sim doesn’t have those elements.
