Forspoken was released for PlayStation 5 and PC recently and the game has received a polarising response from critics and a negative response from players.

The group most dissed this game?s shortcomings were those who purchased it for PlayStation 5 consoles. It appears the game is not very good-looking after all. The footage shown in the trailers was probably from the PC version of the game and even one of the most popular YouTube channels has confirmed the lacking visuals of the PlayStation 5 version!

Forspoken is built on Square Enix?s beautiful Luminous engine. The game, when first revealed, was basically a showcase of that engine?s capabilities. Previously, it was used to power Final Fantasy XV a game that was released in 2016. Even then, people were loving the looks of it.

But it seems like something went wrong this time around. Digital Foundry mentioned in their latest podcast that this game?s lighting is sub-par. It, in many cases, is worse than some of the last-generation games.

Then when it comes to performance, the game?s quality mode that runs with dynamic resolution scaling dips to 18 frames per second. Usually in quality mode games are locked at 30 fps, but they hardly dip below the mid-20s. 18 is just too low.

The worst part is that the game in its performance mode reportedly dips down to 720P, which makes it look worse than those PlayStation 3 games.

Digital Foundry only says that they blame all this on minor issues caused by the optimization of this game, which is not on point. It has to be seen if Luminous Productions decides to work on fixing this drag of a broken game that they have released.

Even Final Fantasy XVI skipped Luminous Engine!

Square Enix Creative and Business Unit III have decided to skip the Luminous Engine and work with Unreal Engine 4 to develop their upcoming magnum opus Final Fantasy XVI. What?s even weird is that Square Enix?s previous games like Final Fantasy VII remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 used Unreal Engine 4 too.
