In its recently revealed earnings report, Nintendo mentioned that the Switch witnessed a decline in sales in comparison to a year before. Still, the console has managed to be the most popular Switch model among its other variants. This should come as no surprise, given the fact that the handheld device has been a strong force in appealing to a large section of players.

Nintendo Switch dominates its siblings like Switch Lite despite a major decline in sales!

It goes without saying that the gaming industry has suffered a lot due to the shortage of semiconductors. Manufacturers like Sony and Microsoft have failed to provide enough supplies of consoles like PlayStation and Xbox. Similarly, Nintendo has also faced this situation in a challenging manner for more than a year now.

And its impact was seen in the recently unveiled financial results for its business year ending in May 2022. The Mario maker’s most popular console at the moment, Nintendo Switch, saw a major drop in sales in the financial year 2022 compared to the previous year which ended in early 2021.

In terms of numbers, Nintendo Switch sold 13.56 million units in the financial year 2022. On the other hand, in the previous year, its figures stood at 20.32 million units. Simply put, the Switch saw a decline of 33.3 percent year over year.

But here’s where the overall scenario takes an interesting twist. Even though Nintendo Switch ended up selling fewer units for the recently ended year, it remained the most popular Switch version among the buyers. This can be understood by having a look at other of its siblings, such as the Switch Lite.

The Switch Lite sold 8.51 million units in the financial year 2021 but could only sell 3.70 million units by the end of the financial year 2022. In other words, it saw an unexpectedly higher drop in sales by 56.5 percent. It implies that people showed more interest in going for the regular Nintendo Switch than any other variant available.
