TL;DR:
"To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content…"— Minecraft (@Minecraft) July 20, 2022
Giving their reasons, Mojang mentioned that the use of NFTs and blockchain creates “digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion, which does not align with Minecraft values of creative inclusion and playing together.” They even wrote that NFTs are not inclusive of all their community since it creates “a scenario of the haves and the have-nots.”
Mojang also stated non-fungible tokens won’t be reliable and may end up costing a lot to the players who purchase them. Most importantly, the developing team strengthened its decision by writing that NFTs take away the joy of gaming due to “speculative pricing and investment mentality”. According to them, this is “inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players.”
As soon as this news spread across social media, fans wasted no time in giving their honest opinions. It seems like not everyone is a huge fan of NFTs and blockchain technology. It was visible very clearly in the reactions of most of the players. Many of them praised the decision of Mojang and expressed happiness over their stance to stay away from non-fungible tokens.
