On August 20, 2022, Mrwhosetheboss uploaded one of his most interesting videos to date. He bought all of Sony’s PlayStations, starting from the first to the latest. Arun began the video by showing off the 1994 box whilst running Gran Turismo over it. Later, he showcased the PS2 that came out six years later, after the first.

Running the Gran Turismo again, Arun explained the massive changes Sony had brought to their console. However, the next few minutes caught every fan’s attention as it not only featured the PlayStation 3 but also some crucial information about the same.

It is no secret that Sony owns the Spiderman IP, making them the only publisher of the franchise. So, keeping that in mind, Sony used a flair of Spiderman in the PlayStation 3 by adding the console name spiderman-style. Arun pointed it out in his video, flashing how neatly the franchise had worked to bring out its best design. The YouTuber also showcased how massively the console had evolved from its first version, becoming 384x stronger than PS1.

Fighting the console markets

Despite ranking far higher in terms of features, Sony readily screwed up the PlayStation 3. They introduced the console for a $500/$600 introductory price, which turned out to be immensely overpriced for customers. I mean, listing a $500 gaming console in 2006 wasn’t the ideal thing.

This heavily affected their sales numbers, as the majority of the users, could not afford it. To mention numbers, Sony could only sell 84 million consoles compared to the PS2, which sold 158. Apart from this, Xbox outsold the Japanese giant by finishing two million higher than their opponents.

So, despite being an absolute mammoth, Sony could not achieve new heights with their 2006 blockbuster console.
