Revealed Back in 2006, Dead Island 2 almost had a mythical status among the gaming community. With an inspired trailer and a lot of promises, DI 2 had gamers hyped all over the world. But after the initial announcement, the dev studio behind the title, Techland, got their hand full with many other titles that eventually caused, DI 2 to be delayed for a long time.

The original Dead Island was a big success for the developers, giving them more than enough motivation to make a sequel. But due to internal politics between the publishers, Deep Silver and Techland, and the core team being busy with Dying Light, it took decades for the game to be completed. But the results were more than worth it!

After a lot of complications, the development of the title was handed over to British developer, Sumo Digital, who once said that it was an “honor” to take responsibility for the title. But eventually, the studio backed away from the project, and Dead Island 2 once again went to an indefinite halt.

In the end, Deep Silver’s internal studio Dambuster was assigned to the project. After announcing the third studio for the game’s development, Deep Silver went silent about the game’s development, giving the fans an “it’s ready when it’s ready” kind of feedback. But after all the handovers and obstacles, Dambuster was able to deliver the good, at last!

After being in development for almost a decade, Deep Silver released the game on April 21, 2023. And ever since its public launch, the game broke records left and right. In just 3 days, DI 2 sold over a million copies, already becoming one of the best-selling games of the year. With flying colors all over the critic and fan review boards, DI 2 has the potential to become one of the biggest games of the year.
