Bethesda Studios recently released their latest first-person shooter, Redfall. Although the company is known to create extremely successful games, Redfall wasn’t one of them. The game made its debut on May 1, 2023. Despite considerable anticipation, it didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of excitement and engagement.

The impending arrival of Starfield added complexity to Redfall’s situation. The gaming community eagerly anticipated Starfield, which had a release date set for September 6, 2023. The tremendous buzz surrounding Starfield further dimmed the spotlight on Redfall’s lukewarm reception.

During a recent interview, Pete Hines, the senior vice president of global marketing & communications at Bethesda Softworks, openly acknowledged the less-than-ideal launch of Redfall. He went on to say, “Okay, we didn’t get the start we wanted, but it’s still a fun game… and we’re going to keep working on it. We’re going to do 60fps. We’re going to get it to be a good game because we know, as a first-party studio, Game Pass lives forever. There will be people ten years from now who are going to join Game Pass, and Redfall will be there.”

However, what distinguishes Bethesda from many other game developers is their steadfast commitment to their creations. Hines drew a direct comparison between Redfall’s initial reception and the infamous launch of Fallout 76. Like Redfall, Fallout 76 faced severe criticism upon release due to numerous issues. Yet, Bethesda persisted and continued to work on the game, gradually transforming it into a more enjoyable experience.

During the interview, Hines emphasized Bethesda’s history of not abandoning their games. He underlined their readiness to invest in improving their titles even after a rough start. His comment about Redfall being played for a decade is a bold statement. Nevertheless, it shows the studio’s dedication to changing the game to make it more enjoyable for players.

This recently surfaced interview leads us to Hines’ optimistic outlook for Redfall. He firmly believes that the game will follow in the footsteps of Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online, evolving into something much better than it was during its launch. Although Redfall is only offering 30 FPS support now, Pete confirmed that a 60 FPS update is in the works. It is worth noting that there was no time frame given by the devs as to when the update will be rolled out.
