Sony’s former employee, who worked as the game director for the popular PlayStation exclusive Days Gone, recently opened up about his experience in the company. Sony Interactive Entertainment is one of the biggest names in the gaming industry and they are also the parent company of PlayStation.
The game director of Days Gone, Jeff Ross, shared that despite the success of their 2019 title, the company’s local studio management always made the entire team feel like the game was a disappointment. On the 5th of Jan 2022, Jeff shared this on Twitter as a reply to the 2020 release Ghost of Tsushima’s major milestone achievement tweet.
At the time I left Sony, Days Gone had been out for a year and a half (and a month), and sold over 8 million copies. It's since gone on to sell more, and then a million+ on Steam. Local studio management always made us feel like it was a big disappointment. #daysgone #PlayStation https://t.co/KMZr2pGe9r

Ghost of Tsushima released in July 2020 and has been a success, recently crossing the 8-million mark for copies sold.
Ross talked about how when he left Sony, Days Gone had already sold over 8-million copies and had been out for more than a year. However, despite the title’s success, it was treated as a “big disappointment” by the management. He also mentioned how the title has a million+ sales on Steam, which is no small achievement.
Shawn Layden, who also worked with Sony previously as the executive vice-president, congratulated Jeff on the achievement and also remembered his presence at the Launch Day of Days Gone.

Days Gone achievements and fans’ reaction
Jeff definitely has a point because when it comes to the popularity of Days Gone. Since its launch, this game has made its name in the gaming community and fans have enjoyed playing this title.
In fact, due to its popularity, this game also got a PC port despite being a PlayStation Exclusive game. Speaking of PC ports, not all PlayStation games are worthy enough to get a PC launch, but this game did that. Let’s have a look at a few fans’ reactions to this:
As someone who deeply loves Rockstar Games, Days Gone felt like a Rockstar game. You guys really went all in with detail and storytelling. Don't EVER feel disappointed.
Days Gone is one of the most incredible titles out there.

Damn sold over 9 million and didn't get a sequel. And a million+ on Steam when it was released later in its lifetime
Only one conclusion from this: Metacritic matters

Wow pathetic how much Sony is invested in the game awards and Metacritic scores. I always wanted a sequel to Days Gone. Oh well now I got an Xbox, and Sony doesn’t seem to want one so 🤷🏽♂️
