Ever since the announcement of The Last of Us television series, fans have been a little skeptical. Seeing the record of video game movies and television adaptations, many started to fear, The Last of Us series will be nowhere near the source material. To tame these demeaning speculations, one of the original actors, Troy Baker, became vocal. 


Troy assured the fans and tried to create hype for the series by saying, Pedro Pascal is a better Joel than him. Seeing Pascal’s skills, Troy wishes to go back and improve his own performance in the games. However, this statement backfired as the fans sparked up witnessing their favorite portrayal of the character being discredited.

Recently in a podcast, baker talked about the live-action adaptation of the popular gaming franchise. He shared his own experience in the supporting role of a villain in the series. But one conversation, in particular, caught the attention of the fans, Baker’s statements about Pedro Pascal’s performance in the show in comparison to him as the main protagonist (Joel). 

What (Pascal) proved is that this character is bigger than any one performance. Man, it’s also earned… I am inspired by Pedro’s performance as Joel. I wish that I could go back and do some things different.stated Troy. The Original actor for the series expressed that after seeing Pedro, he would like to change his own.

The fans and the gaming community weren’t on board with this sentiment. Many took to social media to express their distaste towards the actor’s opinion and dishonor the source. A Twitter user named Criptic said, “Not buying it, just him trying to hype the show lol” while another user said, “cut the BS this is just press to hype up the show..lets be real now”.

Will the television adaptation be faithful to the source? 

One thing the team behind the adaptation has tried to hammer home is that the show is as faithful to the source as possible. However, the decision of recasting the main characters Joel and Ellie with new actors was highly criticized.

But looking at the trailer and reveals so far, the community has started to believe the famed Mandalorian actor Pedro Pascal has done quite an acceptable job as Joel. And with the rave from the Baker, this fact is now well established. But we can’t say anything for sure until the show releases on 15th January 2023.
