Elden Ring player finds secret, hidden reference to George R.R. Martin

So far, there have been many discoveries by the players, in this fantasy title, who keep exploring different corners of its open world map. Most of them have been related to the main quest itself, in the single-player campaign. It’s also a known fact that George R.R. Martin has written the lore of this role playing game from Hidetaka Miyazaki. But more than that, there’s been no involvement from his side.

However, it seems like someone else who was a writer as well on Elden Ring decided to pay homage to the legendary author of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ Recently, a Reddit user posted an in-game image on the social platform. With that, they wrote a caption saying that Elden Ring features a direct reference to the initials of the writer George R.R. Martin.

As per this user named u/LuckyLuckLucker, the reference can be spotted while talking to Gideon Ofnir at the Roundtable Hold. During this moment, players get an option to learn more about some of the bosses they fight on their quest moving forward.

Gideon tells the protagonist the names of these bosses in an order: Godrick, Radahn, Rykard, Morgott, and Rennala. Here, according to the Reddit user, Elden Ring fans will notice that there’s been a tribute given to George R.R. Martin. It’s possible to highlight when looking at the first letter of the names of the first four bosses.

As pointed out by the Reddit user, it can’t be just a coincidence in Elden Ring. In fact, it may be a deliberately inserted reference to the game’s writer by using his initials. So ultimately, the first letters of the aforementioned bosses spell out as “GRRM”.

This is not the usual order players witness when they go against these mighty characters later in the fantasy RPG. It could be a case of pareidolia as well, but it’s hard to ignore for sure, especially now that this secret is revealed.
