According to a recent list featuring the least played games of 2021, Housemarque’s award-winning PlayStation 5 exclusive, Returnal is one of the most retired games of the year. Yes, this news may surprise a lot of gamers, but it is what it is.

Coming as a big shock to the lovers of the ‘Action Game of the Year,’ this latest revelation speaks volumes about gamers and how often they prefer to keep playing one specific title.

HowLongToBeat’s list of Most Retired Games of 2021 shows that Returnal is among the Top 10 least finished AAA titles. In case you did’t know, the term “Retired” refers to those games that people that stop playing the game before completing them, either to later return to complete them or not.

And as per this recently released list, Returnal stood at number 6 among the rest of the names. The top five most retired games, above the PlayStation 5 offering, were Twelve Minutes, Loop Hero, The Ascent, Outriders, and The Medium. Returnal: players can’t PlayStation 5 game

The way the high octane rogue-like launched earlier this year was phenomenal. Yes, it had issues at the time of its release, just like any other big AAA title. However, the dev team worked on making it flawless and certainly achieved the goal with crucial updates.

Returnal became a fan favorite on PlayStation 5, offering a great storyline with challenging gameplay mechanics. It even won 3 honors at this year’s The Game Awards event, including the trophy of Best Action title.

But the newest list from HowLongToBeat seems to tell a different story altogether.

It may imply that no matter how many people hopped on to play Returnal, not every one of them actually finished the game. And that’s why the game is on the list of Most of Retired Games of 2021; it’s definitely not due to the fact that it’s pretty hard in terms of quest designing, because of its very nature.

Returnal is currently available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
