Over the years, many people have repeatedly recreated these songs, but some of them really stood out. Two friends recently posted a video on TikTok of themselves performing the well-known Nintendo’s Super Mario 64 theme. But with a catch!
Friends play the theme from Nintendo
In the video, two friends can be seen playing Super Mario 64’s Bob-Omb Battlefield theme. However, they weren’t using any musical instruments; instead, they used a kind of hollow pipe, known as Boomwhackers. For those who don’t know, the Boomwhacker is usually used in elementary schools to teach students about musical notes and pitches.

They used pipes of different sizes and bashed them on their thighs to create the iconic tune. Some pipes started rolling away and had to be caught to stop them from rolling further.
This is the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen. Bob-omb Battlefield – Super Mario 64 pic.twitter.com/5lnysQhGLF

Made more impressive by the fact the tubes keep rolling away to a different spot.

Some fans watched the video several times, just to be in awe of the tune that was such well crafted.
The longer I watched the video, the more impressed I got. Holy moley.

Even more, fans asked for some more classic tunes from the duo.

As a music teacher who has tried and failed to get kids to play a major scale with a single boomwhacker EACH, I can attest that this is absolutely bananas https://t.co/AAB1vsWTaX

The concept behind the hollowed tube
These tubes produce sounds using a concept called resonance. Sound designers use this concept to create hollowed sound effects for films and TV. Almost all musical instruments that tap or hit use the concept of resonance. The “Thongophones,” a local instrument from Papua New Guinea, is the best example of this.

‘Boomwhackers’ are very similar to them. As they also come in different sizes and can make only a single sound when struck. The two friends used the same instrument in their video. Even though they are not very well-known in the west, these instruments are quite enjoyable.
