That’s because the devs at Activision seem to be having no clue about taking the long-running franchise forward. Especially in terms of offering great live service-based titles like the ongoing Warzone 2.

With the reveal of Counter Strike 2, it has become evident that rival games could be a threat this year to COD’s dominance in more ways than one. The announcement from Valve recently came up with a massive introduction of exciting features. Undoubtedly, they will give a phenomenal online gaming experience to players who love first-person shooters.

Most importantly, the upcoming addition to the hit series isn’t doing anything different from its predecessor. It is only making the old format even better with mind-boggling upgrades. Has it been the case with Warzone 2 as well, which was released after the enormous success of Activision’s first battle royale installment?

Call of Duty Warzone 2 can learn a lot from Counter Strike 2

To begin with, Counter-Strike 2 devs have kept things simple. They haven’t brought unexpected new mechanics in order to do something out-of-the-box in terms of changing what players liked about CSGO. Instead, they have just enhanced the overall experience that has worked for them for over a decade now. After all, CSGO has been a popular FPS title since 2012, despite witnessing multiple rivals. It’s a testament to its formula of keeping fan-favorite elements intact while offering timely, essential updates.

On the other hand, Call of Duty Warzone 2 was initially released with all the unwanted changes that no one saw coming. It felt so strange from the first Warzone that many players couldn’t relate to it. On top of that, devs somehow took a weird approach of removing those mechanics that were appreciated by the majority of the users in the original battle royale. For example, the 1v1 Gulag format was extended to 2v2 and the loot system was modified for no reason. Moreover, there was also an unending issue of game-breaking glitches that weren’t addressed timely.

Yes, things have gradually changed now following the arrival of Season 2, but there’s still a long way to go. What devs have introduced now should have been there at the time of the launch itself. Call of Duty Warzone 2 is lacking a good experience in terms of giving players lucrative challenges or meaningful rewards for winning. There’s no innovation in the gameplay at all, compared to what rivals are doing. In other words, the relevance has gone for many COD lovers.

If the current situation stays the same, it won’t take long for fans to forget Warzone 2. The devs at Activision need to pull up their socks fast. Or else, the ambitious sequel to a glorious predecessor will fade away sooner than later.
