Valve shocked the gaming community in late March with the announcement of Counter-Strike 2. The much-awaited installment in the franchise will serve as an upgrade to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. With the game currently in limited testing, players were treated to an update.

With changes brought to gameplay mechanics, Valve included a small joke in what is being called the Chick-fil-A update. The company released an update for CS2 on June 6. Among several changes brought in the update, developers changed the way changes interacted with players in the game.

Chickens roasted by Molotov in Counter-Strike 2

Long-time may CS:GO fans may know, the chickens are a big part of the game, not in terms of how the game plays, but as a joke. Players can shoot chickens, or get chickens to follow them around the map. Found prominently in the map Inferno, chickens became a consistent theme in the game.

As the new update launched, fans realized Valve made changes to how chickens interact with the Molotov in-game. Previously, players could kill chickens by shooting them, tossing a grenade at them, or burning them with the Molotov. The chicken would simply disappear, making a clucking sound.

However, with the new update, chickens do not disappear as they would when burnt by a Molotov. Instead, it appears as a cooked chicken! While it took some time to discover, fans found the update hilarious, dubbing it the Chick-fil-A update. The community came together, brainstorming ideas about how to use this. One fan suggested eating the chicken should give players HP back.

Others simply enjoyed the update, happy with the way Valve is handling CS2. Some even went on to call CS2 ‘Game of The Year’. It seems Valve hit the right chord for fans with the chicken dynamics!

Chick-fil-A update brings changes to Counter-Strike 2

While fans are stuck on the chicken-related part of the update, the update brought major changes to the limited-release version of the game. Mirage takes the place of Dust 2 in the limited test. Fans saw an updated version of Mirage, with the famous pixel gap in B-site apartments fixed. Moreover, changes made to how smokes work mean the connector one-way smoke does not work anymore.

Most importantly, the update changed how the buy menu works in-game. Moving away from a wheel, the buy menu is now in the form of a grid. Players select load-outs of what weapons to take into the match. Additionally, the option to refund weapons and equipment was introduced.

The update is a positive sign in terms of how Valve approaches the limited release. Ahead of its release in the Summer of 2023, Valve has a lot to polish in terms of gameplay mechanics and bugs. Bringing in updates based on player feedback is important to retain its player base.
