Sony’s God of War franchise has proven to be a cash cow, generating massive profits with each new installment. Additionally, all the titles have always been the apple of the critics’ eye. The latest installment, God of War: Ragnarok, took the success achieved by its predecessors to the next level.

The game was a critical and financial hit since its release in November 2022. The title just barely missed out on the Game of the Year award to Elden Ring. Ragnarok rounded off the second era of the game series based on Norse mythology. But now, recent job openings at the Santa Monica Studio point out that a sequel to God of War: Ragnarok is in the works.

The recent job openings from Sony’s Santa Monica Studio have sparked speculations about the new God of War title. The job is for a Senior Combat Designer to work on companions, a system first introduced in God of War: Ragnarok. At first glance, it looks like a normal senior-level developer role, but a closer inspection reveals much more.

The job listing explicitly states in the requirement, “Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics, and enemies”. Along with requiring four years of experience in game development, the title also requires two in the character combat design.

These must-have requirements for the job have raised the eyebrows of many fans of the title. They have started speculating that Santa Monica Studio is hiring a team for a new title. But with Ragnarok wrapping up the loose ends of adventures in the Norse mythology of Kratos, fans suspect a DLC is more feasible to arrive.
