Among the titles revealed during the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, Ubisoft dropped jaws as footage from the new installment played at the event. However, the next one in the series may just set things right for hardcore fans.
Ubisoft revealed Assassin’s Creed Mirage as the newest installment in the franchise with a satisfying trailer during the Showcase. The game looks to take the web by storm as gamers experience nostalgia for the franchise’s early days.

As fans of the franchise may know, the last installment in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, was released in November 2020. Three years have passed since a title came as part of the series. The arrival of Assassin’s Creed Mirage at the PlayStation Showcase 2023 changes that.
The new installment follows the story of the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla character, Basim. It shows his journey from being a street thief to a Hidden One under the tutelage of Roshan.
Mirage looks to be a change in the pattern of games released so far. To commemorate the 15th installment in the franchise, it seems Ubisoft has traced its way back to the initial games. It is set in the Golden Age of Islam, principally in Baghdad. The setting is reminiscent of the first Assassin’s Creed game that started it all, with large domes and towers to scale.

Moreover, the game takes a step away from the RPG aspect it embraced with the last three titles. The move gained a lot of support as hardcore fans saw the inculcation of the RPG aspect as the loss of the franchise’s identity. Gameplay has seen inspiration from the Black Box when it comes to carrying out missions. It gives players the opportunity to choose their own path.
Although similar, Mirage has an image of its own
While the game will feature a nod to the first title, it continues to carry the story of Basim forward. Originally designed as DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Mirage turned into its own game. Similar to older Assassin’s Creed titles, it will feature a story between 15 to 20 hours.
When people first saw the trailer, they spotted similarities with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This is because Ubisoft is using the same engine as Mirage’s predecessor. However, it is evident that the game is clearly a step forward. Animations look smoother and the world looks to be more vibrant. Colors popped out in the trailer, adding to the overall effect of the game.

That game will release on October 12, 2023. Despite positive signs in the trailer, fans remain pragmatic about Mirage. However, it easily looks to be one of the most promising games in the franchise after a long time. Only time will tell if it is as good as the original titles, or just takes us on a failed nostalgia drive.
