Microsoft’s console giant, Xbox, has been one of the vital players in the industry for a long time. Their technological innovations in the gaming field helped shape the modern industry. However, Microsoft once was far behind Japanese giants such as Sony and Nintendo. But with the first Xbox console, they changed everything. 

In a recent video, YouTube tech guru Mrwhosetheboss reviewed every console that was released by Xbox. In his in-depth review, YouTube shared how technologically advanced Xbox was ever since its initial release back in 2001. He showcased a parallel comparison between the first Microsoft console versus the second generation of Sony, PlayStation 2. 

How Xbox ‘annihilated’ PlayStation

Ever since the inception of gaming culture, Japanese studios have been the monarchs of the Market. No one can deny the contributions Nintendo had to the development of the modern gaming scene. Their Flagship IPs such as Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon have been the building blocks that inspired many to delve into the medium. 

Other than Nintendo, another Japanese giant Sony still dominates the market. In an industry that is so heavily ruled by the Eastern powers, no one had expected the Americans to make any significant mark. But in 2001, Bill Gates stunned the world by launching Microsoft’s very first console, Xbox.

“Microsoft was very aware that they needed to compete with the PlayStation 2 specs, to make the Xbox a success. But what they decided was to instead completely annihilate them. They literally doubled PS2’s system memory with 64 Mega Bytes of Ram,” emphasized the YouTube techy who was in awe of the brilliance the first Xbox console produced.

This feat was made possible by the genius engineers at Microsoft, who used their PC-building knowledge to make a console. This enabled them to greatly increase its power as well as make it very easy to transfer PC games to consoles, using the Window’s DirectX program. That is why the console’s name was inspired by the program’s name and called the X-Box.

The first console sold 24 million units, beating Nintendo’s beloved GameCube. With such a massive feat with its very first console, Microsoft cemented its place as one of the main players in the gaming industry. Even though Microsoft lost $4 billion dollars in the process, they weren’t worried as it served the purpose of building the foundation upon which the empire is now built. Their influence and significance are still untouched to this day in the business.
