Call of Duty Modern Warfare II is the existing action installment from Activision. While it’s still receiving major updates, the devs will soon cease to provide more content for this game. It’s because they will be busy looking after the next major entry in the FPS franchise.

Rumored to be called Modern Warfare III, 2023’s CoD is yet to receive an official reveal. Although Activision has already confirmed it, there’s still no trailer available for the hyped game. While fans are waiting for a rumored event in August, another massive detail surrounding this year’s premium offering has now surfaced online. Surprisingly, it’s somehow connected to a classic blockbuster from 2009!

As of now, strong leaks and reports from various sources have mentioned that this year’s game will contain some refreshments. This means it will have some changes in the overall experience despite being similar to MWII. Some of the changes expected to arrive with CoD 2023 include the addition of Zombies, new weapons, and maps.

However, Call of Duty Modern Warfare III might also feature a modified system of perks. Simply put, it’s expected to have a category of Gears. These gears will reportedly have various obtainable perks. Here’s the leaked list of the perks players may get to unlock:

  • Helmet – Perk 1
  • Vest – Perk 2
  • Gloves – Perk 3
  • Boots – Perk 4

Now, what’s interesting to note is that a tweet was recently shared online about CoD 2023’s perk system. An account named TheCallofDutyArchiveProject revealed a rare fact about 2009’s original Modern Warfare 2. According to their tweet, the classic entry from 14 years ago almost had a certain Create-a-Class system similar to 2023’s upcoming game.

In short, MW2’s canceled Create-a-Class system included an ability to choose a certain gear for one’s Operator, including leggings, vests, and helmets. It implies that Infinity Ward already had a plan of action for the 14-year-old game, which is now rumored for MWIII. This is quite fascinating to know for any franchise lover.

It shows Infinity Ward’s intent to keep doing wild experiments in its projects. While this plan was scrapped in 2009, CoD 2023 is about to bring it back. At least that’s what the leaked reports have claimed so far.
