Veteran gamers fondly remember playing Halo 3 with their buddies and having a blast. However, as is the case with all good things, this game’s life circle might be coming to an end. Servers for iconic Halo titles no longer active

Microsoft, the distributor of these iconic titles, took to a blog post to inform the community about the sad news. The blog said that effective January 13, 2022, servers for legacy titles on the Xbox 360 will be going down. What this means is that online support for these games will no longer be available.

However, it appears that in a sad turn of events, online support for these games has already gone down.

This issue was brought to light by YouTuber Mint Blitz, who took to a Twitter post to inform the community about this sad news. While online support being taken away was inevitable, players have somewhat an issue with the timing. The servers are down almost one whole month before the scheduled shutdown. And players feel that the time they could’ve cherished playing these games’ multiplayer has been cut short.

There is, however, a silver lining. The Master Chief Collection of the franchise is not affected by this shutdown and will continue to operate.

The blog post did mention that the shutdown would be conducted in a phased manner. However, there was not a mention of any specific date. Adding on, there was no mention of which title would shut down first. Halo Reach and Halo 4 are no longer supported for online service. Halo 3, on the other hand, has had only some of its playlists taken down.

Considering the inconsistencies in the shutdown process, this move appears a tad bit haphazard.
