Call of Duty has always been considered the genesis of modern FPS games, because of how it shaped the entire genre of first-person-shooter along with itself. However, despite having so many reiterations and comebacks in the gaming industry over the past 20 years, there is still a part of it that can be considered underrated and non-recognized.

And one of the victims of this is Call of Duty 4, which despite being the mother of modern online gaming, still isn’t respected enough. It seems like there are several reasons behind this, including the constant change in the overall series itself.

CoD 4: Modern Warfare has always been considered a title that introduced the most amount of multiplayer components, allowing the fanbase to get a really hardcore and action-packed experience.

The game has a very charming way of putting up a debate, about whether to be a hero and die or be a villain and live. This question comes your way when in the 10th mission titled “Shock and Awe” you try and rescue a pilot from their crashed helicopter. In this process, however, you lose precious time to get out of the Nuke radius. In the end, it kills not just the player but the teammates as well.

This scene alone was enough to make this entry a serious contender for the best experience in the entire history of gaming, but somehow it also affected the full storyline of the franchise making COD characters not just weak, but flawed as well. Thus, it is not just an underrated but a dark horse as well in the franchise.

If you played Call of Duty 4 at its launch, you might remember the entire time rescuing and escorting people from place to place as well as crushing a revolutionary uprising. However, as most of the time video games do, CoD 4 started using its own concept in other installments as well.

Therefore, making the maps so much recognizable in the campaign itself that most of the maps used in the campaigns were turned into assets for upcoming online modes.
