The genius Nintendo game director Masahiro Sakurai, who created Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, shared his take on this matter recently. Moreover, he also revealed which side he’s on when it comes to buying a game and also the pros of both the mediums for owning a title.

The 52-year-old has a YouTube channel called “Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games.” On this channel, he talks about various things related to the popular titles and their development. Recently, he shed light on which type of video game copies one should own.
He explained the pros of owning a physical copy is that it can be kept forever, and that there is fewer data to install and collect. Plus, there’s no requirement for a point card or credit card to purchase it. Meanwhile, the digital copy has pros like no need of visiting a store, as it can be bought instantly. Furthermore, it’s always in stock and there’s no need for a physical storage.
But which side does Sakurai takes when it comes to owning a game? Many think he might take the traditional route. But the Nintendo game director revealed, “I’m Team Digital all the way.” He shared about owning physical copies too, but they all are gifts. He usually goes for digital ones when buying for himself.
What’s the reason for Mr. Sakurai to go for a digital copy?
He revealed that he’s not highly attracted towards physical things. Instead, he cares more about the ‘experience’ of the game itself, in terms of playing it. Further, he also revealed the major reason for taking the digital route was his new office. He shared that his new office doesn’t have a dedicated storage room for games like the ones he had previously.

Now the 52-year-old looks for ways to store more games compactly and not waste much physical space. So, digital copies come to the rescue there. But he also keeps his old games with utmost care, inside a disc binder. Which side do you see yourself on, Team Digital or Team Physical?
