Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in May 2012. And after its announcement, this game pretty much vanished from the public eye. Developer CD Projekt Red got busy with its upcoming blockbuster The Witcher 3.

Witcher 3 was launched in 2015 to critical acclaim, and it was financially successful too. This encouraged the developer to keep working on that game. Later, they released two big DLCs for it. And then the developer announced that it is now actively working on Cyberpunk 2077.

Fifteen minutes of the demo was featured during E3 2018. The game was already a hit. People were loving everything they saw, and it launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox consoles, and PC in December 2020. However, things did not go as planned and one such outcome of this was lawsuits from their own investors.

Cyberpunk 2077 lawsuit concludes with $1.85 million settlement

Cyberpunk 2077’s E3 2018 Demo featured Keanu Reeves. Fans just lost it when they saw the ‘breathtaking’ hero in one of the most anticipated games ever. The game’s launch was set for 2020. The developers also announced that this game would have a next-generation version.

The first release date was April 16, 2020, then it was postponed to September 17, then to November 19, and finally to December 10. Fans were so excited about this game that developers even got death threats for delaying it. The typical gamer stuff was going on.

The game finally launched on a set date and reviews came online, it was revealed that the game was not running so hot on numerous machines. Weird thing was that CD Projekt Red did not even allow review outlets to use their own footage in those reviews. They had to use footage provided by the developer.

Then everyone knew the reason for delays and selective review footage. The game was beyond broken. It was not optimized to such an extent that Sony even removed it from the PlayStation store and asked CD Projekt Red to provide refunds to the buyers.

All the bad press and refunds led some investors to file a lawsuit against the developer. This lawsuit claimed that investors were misled by CD Projekt Red about the condition of Cyberpunk 2077 and every statement they made about it during 2020 was “materially false and misleading.
