The Nintendo collaboration with MercurySteam turned out to be a massive success. Breaking all its predecessors’ sales records, Metroid Dread became the most loved title of the famous action-adventure franchise. The title was released in the year 2021 and has increased in popularity ever since. Well, it seems like the makers have decided to cash in on the hype created by their last release. New developments suggest MercurySteam might be working on two new titles.

The marketing for Metroid Dread wasn’t an ideal campaign for the collaboration. There were constant speculations about creative rifts between Nintendo and MercurySteam during the development phase. However, the CEO of the developing giant recently denied all the rumors. Furthermore, the latter had been very impressed with Nintendo and valued their contribution. The release of the latest fiscal report of the Metroid Dread developers also suggests the release of two new titles and perhaps yet another collaborative project.

MercurySteam has “two large undisclosed titles” in development, according to their most recent fiscal year report. However, everything you read or hear about the titles is pure guesswork because not a single detail was provided. Despite there being no official confirmation regarding the two titles, fans are almost convinced that one of them is a Metroid Dread follow-up.

There have been a lot of fan theories about the follow-up for Metroid Dread. For any gaming developer, following up on a massively accepted title is a tricky challenge. Thus, MercurySteam took all the time it needed to plan things further. Based on the appreciation the developers received for the 2D action title, another remake isn’t too far-fetched. If the gaming community speculations are to be believed, a Super Metroid remake is on the cards.

Recently, the head of the developers offered a different viewpoint on the partnership with Nintendo. He kept complimenting Nintendo for the work they had put into creating Metroid Dread. The CEO praised Nintendo’s workplace for being open to creativity. Enric Alvarez reflected on the joint venture, saying, “one of the best development processes we could ever dream of.”

In any case, fans will have to wait for an official confirmation of these two projects. Until then, gamers can keep rooting for the most rational guess – another exciting collaboration.
