Good news for Resident Evil (RE) fans! Capcom, in their latest financial report, revealed that Resident Evil Village has crossed the milestone of five million copies sold and is on track to receive a DLC in the near future. There hasn’t been any sort of clarification regarding this, but it seems Capcom is likely working on this DLC, which they even confirmed earlier this year.

Capcom’s Resident Evil Village DLC is in the making

In its annual financial report for 2021, Capcom briefly mentioned bringing free DLC to Resident Evil Village in the Development Strategy Section. However, this DLC won’t be a part of the previously announced DLC expansion for the game. And Capcom has been teasing about DLCs for several months prior to E3.

It is not known what the free DLC will contain, as Capcom did not offer any clarity on this end. What players can expect could be more levels of gameplay, added weapons, an increase in difficulty, and the best part: reintroduction of old enemies from the previous RE games. That said, it is too early to draw conclusions. And the addition of the Mercenaries mode might not be relevant for this DLC.

Resident Evil Village crossed a milestone with over 5 million copies, even outselling the RE 2 remake. Village is selling faster than Resident Evil 7 and arguably has become the best Steam launch of any RE game.

Furthermore, Capcom remains dedicated to Resident Evil Re:Verse, which has been postponed to 2022. Village and Re: Verse production teams are most likely not totally overlapping, but the perennially delayed multiplayer shooter is consuming some resources.

If the Village’s expansion is story-focused, it may still be on the verge of being finished by now. Capcom will most certainly not want the buzz around Village to fade completely; nevertheless, RE is a legendary IP, loved and adored by the community and the franchise’s fans. And players hope to gain more clarity about the DLC situation from Capcom soon.
