Capcom surprised fans worldwide when they revealed a brand new website adorned with nothing more than a countdown timer. The mysterious timer counting down to an unknown announcement, the aesthetic of the website, and even the font itself drove fans to come up with their own theories and ideas.
The Japanese video game publisher could not be happier as the hype essentially built itself. The community scrutinized every aspect of the website as hungry fans turned into hype machines, hoping to see their favorite title take the spotlight at the end of the countdown.
However, Capcom’s enigmatic masterstroke has had an unexpected side effect.

Capcom suffers unforeseen backlash
The stage was set as fans took sides regarding what the reveal would entail. Some drew inspiration from the fact that Street Fighter recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. Capcom revealed a new logo to commemorate the occasion. The Twitter post celebrating the anniversary read:
“35 years of epic fights, fireballs, and iconic rivalries!”
A solid lead to base their theories on. Additionally, the timer would end alongside the culmination of the Street Fighter Pro Tour, further giving wind to a potential Street Fighter 6 announcement.

However, others banked on a potential Resident Evil Village DLC to finally hit store shelves soon. The font on the timer coincided with the font used in previous RE entries. Further fuelling this theory.
Subsequently, the hype reached a fever pitch as the clock ticked down. With only one hour left before the announcement, it was only a matter of time before the fanbase would finally have an answer. Frantic fans refreshed the website, but to their surprise, the timer had halted.
Certainly, it couldn’t have broken? But a few refreshes later, the timer still stood its ground at the one-hour mark like the gatekeeper to Capcom’s reveal.
