With Street Fighter 6, Capcom released a game that was long overdue as part of their franchise. With Street Fighter 6 making waves, Capcom seems to have plans for another release next year. These plans look set to take the bar even higher than before.

Capcom confirmed plans for a new release in early 2024. To give a few hints to fans, Capcom mentioned the release would sell millions of copies all around the world, or that is what they are expecting.

Capcom teases new release for 2024

Establishing itself as a consistent publisher over the years, Capcom weighs its words carefully when it comes to making statements about future releases. Their plans to release a game they expect will make millions is not something taken lightly.

In light of the sales figure they estimate, it might be a giveaway about what the title could be. Given it will sell millions of copies, the title will be among the popular games Capcom has lined up. Moreover, the assurance of millions of copies to be sold could mean it is a franchise set to come back after a small hiatus.

All of this points to the Monster Hunter franchise. The last installment in the franchise, Monster Hunter World came out in 2018. Moreover, what makes it a viable argument is that next year will mark the 20th anniversary of the game. What better time than the 20th anniversary to bring the next main game to the franchise? Additionally, with post-launch support ending for Monster Hunter Rise in a little while, could it mean the franchise returns with the next mainline game?

After all, Monster Hunter World was on Capcom’s list of top-selling games. In its lifetime, Monster Hunter World sold over 22 million copies, with 5 million being sold at launch weekend. Any subsequent release is bound to match those numbers, if not topple them. Moreover, since it is the game’s 20th anniversary, Capcom may have bigger plans, such as add-ons as well as exclusive launch content.

While fans hope for the next Monster Hunter game to come in 2024, there remains no guarantee Capcom will choose to do so.
