Counter-Strike fans are over the moon as Valve revealed the rumored sequel to the legendary online FPS game. With a free upgrade, the classic CS is all set to adapt and improve for a new generation of gamers. With the help of Valve’s in-house Source 2 engine, CS will come to life like never before.
With the official announcement, it has been revealed that one of the most vital parts of the game, the maps, will be getting an overhaul in terms of visuals and performance. However, the devs have promised the new upgrades won’t be tampering with the map’s structure, so veteran players who have spent hours honing their skills on these maps, won’t face any problems.

With the official announcement, Valve has revealed, they have taken a total of three approaches to improve the maps. They are Touchstone, Upgrades, and Overhaul.
Touchstone maps
There are classic maps of Counter-Strike, that have a rich legacy. Respecting the significance of their authenticity, the devs have decided not to make any major changes in these maps other than some minor visual improvements and overall aesthetic upgrades using the Source 2 Engine.
While these maps may seem new, every veteran player will feel right at home. Some of these maps include Dust 2, Inferno, Mirage, and Train.
Upgraded maps
These maps are heavily upgraded using the new engine. From physical-based rendering systems to realistic lighting, upgraded maps will be a visual spectacle in the game. With heavy upgrades and stronger graphical fidelity in these maps, they could cause some strain on the GPUs.
Overhauled maps
These maps are completely rebuilt from the scratch with the new engine. Valve has also revealed the new Source 2 tool will be available for the community map creator. Here players can fully utilize the tools and create massive maps that will enhance the community workshops aspects of the game.
