Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is just a few days away from its worldwide debut this month. After enjoying the open beta phase, players will now get to actually experience the full Multiplayer content of the game. Not to mention there are Zombies in this year’s premium installment. However, there’s something more fans will get to see in MP and Zombies – weapon camos.
Since the introduction of camos and the challenges related to them, COD players have become really fond of them. In every new title, they try to seek catchy designs for their favorite guns, sniper rifles or pistols. Modern Warfare 3 will be no different in this regard. It will present an array of attractive skins, including completionist category. Now there are some players of MWII who are wondering whether they can apply camos from the existing game onto the weapons in MW3.
Here’s what to know regarding the use of Mastery camos in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Modern Warfare II

In Modern Warfare II, the four mastery camos are Gold, Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion. Meanwhile, Modern Warfare 3 will receive four brand new mastery camos, namely the Gilded, Forged, Priceless, and Interstellar. The last two will feature animated effects on the weapons.
Now speaking of the usage, players of Modern Warfare II can’t apply the mastery camos from the game on Modern Warfare 3 weapons. It’s for both the Multiplayer and Zombies modes. In short, MWII mastery camos can be used only on the weapons featured in MWII. Similarly, mastery camos in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 can only be used on MW3 weapons.

There was a recent blog post by the makers that clearly states the difference between mastery camos of the two games. Yes, Modern Warfare 3 is a continuation of MWII and it carries along weapons from its predecessor. But it’s also a standalone game of its own. Which means it’s got its own grind for weapons and their own unique camos. That’s the simple reason why players can’t have the option of making a crossover of weapon skins.
Luckily, though, they can still use camos from MWII onto Modern Warfare 3 weapons. But this option is only limited to the base camos found in the game. Similarly, base camos from MW3 can also be applied onto MWII weapons. All things considered, the only exception here is the category of mastery camos.
