Can Villagers Fall in Love With Each Other in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Villagers have been an important part of the Animal Crossing franchise. Several players hold deep affection towards popular characters like Brewster, Kapp’n, Isabelle, Tom Nook, and others. Naturally, fans were too excited to see the return of their favorite characters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Unfortunately, maximum users complain that villagers in ACNH are very plain and boring. It’s mainly because Nintendo has introduced a lot of repetitive villager dialogues, which irritate many players. Interestingly, developers released many new features with the 2.0 update to meet player expectations.

Surprisingly, there are some ongoing rumors that villagers can fall in love with each other in the game. Is this rumor too good to be true?

Is it possible for any villager to fall in love with another one in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

Nintendo allows players to develop a friendly relationship with their villagers. Furthermore, they can increase their friendship level with them and reach the maximum level to earn more gifts from them. Although you can become best buddies with your villagers, you can’t make them fall in love with you.

Not to mention, you can’t make your island residents fall in love with each other. According to Samantha Wilson, “Um i guess, if you have the online you can date with the characters that you are talking to. But i dont know about the animals that live on your island.”

It’s true that there are no dating mechanics in New Horizons; however, Nintendo still introduced Reese and Cyrus who are husband-and-wife business partners. Interestingly, Reese and Cyrus are special characters and you can’t make them your island’s residents in New Horizons.

Are there any consequences of a love relationship?

Honestly, you will not face any consequences as you cannot have a love relationship in New Horizons in the first place. Nintendo prohibits you from dating in the game and you can’t pursue your love life in ACNH.

Surprisingly, one Reddit user explained that villagers could fall in love back in Animal Crossing GameCube. According to Screenrant, “One player of the original Animal Crossing for the GameCube, which was released back in 2001 for the console, has expressed astonishment after discovering that NPCs could get crushes on the player.” 

Interestingly, another user clarified that this was not a dating mechanic but rather was a consequence of the luck system built into Animal Crossing. The comment said, “This was a luck based thing! On days of high luck villagers of the opposite gender of the player would ‘love’ them. I think you could also influence it with Katrina when she was visiting.”

Reasons why love relationships must be a part of Animal Crossing

After learning about the aforementioned feature in Animal Crossing GameCube, several users would want to see some similar features in New Horizons as well. These are some significant reasons why Nintendo should add romance to Animal Crossing.

• Marriage

Nintendo holds a Wedding Season event in New Horizons every year. Therefore, it would be interesting to see if developers could introduce a marriage feature in the future, where you can marry your favorite character.

• Living with Villagers

Villagers are indeed a very important part of the Animal Crossing series. Players love to spend more time with their island residents, especially after the 2.0 update.

Nintendo introduced a feature in the current update, and now villagers are able to visit players’ houses. However, if Nintendo adds love relationships in ACNH, then it would be a splendid idea that allows users to share their house with their partners. It would be super cute to be able to return home to find your partner waiting for you and pottering around the home you’ve made.

• New Items/ DIY recipes

If Nintendo adds a big feature like relationship, then it will be important for it to release new DIY and indoor items. Naturally, developers will release tons of new furniture items and much more.

There is huge potential if we see DIY recipes for wedding ceremonies and items, such as engagement rings or chocolates.
