The Fortnite Item Shops is one of Epic Games’ biggest sources of revenue. Players can find a plethora of cosmetics in the shop ranging from Fortnite gliders to skins and emotes. In order to purchase these items, you will have to purchase V-Bucks. Previously, players could only purchase and claim skins for themselves. However, with the version 6.31 update, Epic Games gave players the ability to perform a kind in-game act and gift skins to their friends.
In order to gift a skin, you will first need to make sure that you have sufficient V-Bucks on your account. This is because you will be incurring the entire cost of the skin and giving its benefit to your friend. Next, you will need to enter the item shop and pick an item that you can afford. Now, two prompts will show up, one to purchase the item for yourself and the other to gift it away.

How the Fortnite gifting mechanism works
From here, you will be directed to a screen from which you must pick one of your in-game friends to gift the item. Besides this, you can enter an optional personal message if you like, select the color of the virtual gift box or just press the button to ‘Send.’ The next time your friend checks their account, they will be greeted with the prompt “someone wonderful sent you a gift” after which they can open a gift.

Fortnite gifts can be great for showing your appreciation for an online teammate or a friend whom you cannot physically reach. While you can gift your friends every skin from the item shop, the same does not apply to the battle pass. This is because the battle pass requires an individual purchase from every account.
