The year 2021 was huge for games and also the gamers across the globe. Many new titles that released in the calendar year amassed a huge following upon their debut. However, one specific region witnessed an unusual trend that will surprise many.
When it comes to Europe, the ‘new’ games of 2021 didn’t actually win over the players in terms of sales in different parts of the continent. In fact, old titles managed to stand their ground, despite being a year old. Simply put, the past offerings for Nintendo Switch and Sony’s PlayStation dominated the European markets. Whereas, there were only a few new titles on the top 10 best-selling chart.
For those who are unaware, Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PS5 finished in second place in Europe. It was only behind 2021’s FIFA 22, which maintained its lead over other rivals. Call of Duty Vanguard among top 10 selling 2021 games in Europe
Speaking of what Christopher Dring shared in his tweet, according to him, most of the new games of 2021 performed poorly in European regions, which is evidenced by not many of them not having made the charts of top-selling titles.
For example, Metroid: Dread, despite having a great launch, couldn’t find a spot on the top 10 list for Europe. The Nintendo Switch hit only managed to reach the 23rd position among other best-sellers.
However, coming as a shocking entry among the best-selling 2021 games in Europe, Call of Duty Vanguard ended up on the top 10 list. Yes, it achieved this feat despite suffering from various gameplay issues during its release last month. It seems like players in European markets didn’t really care about the glitches as they just wanted to have the latest Call of Duty.

Apart from Call of Duty Vanguard, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury also found a spot on the top 10 chart. Other entries on the list were Capcom’s Resident Evil Village, Forza Horizon 5, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
