Despite Call of Duty Modern Warfare II failing to woo the majority of players, the franchise hasn’t slowed down. In fact, Activision is now preparing gradually to reveal the next premium offering, set to release later this fall.

According to the rumors and leaked reports, this year’s CoD title will be called Modern Warfare III. This means it will continue the story of the existing installment featuring members of Task Force 141. However, what makes the upcoming game unique is the fact that it will also include zombies. Yes, the undead from the Black Ops universe will make their way into a MW entry – for the first time.

Earlier this year, several insiders revealed that MWIII will cross paths with the undead. In the last few months, such claims have increased rapidly. Now, it’s nearly confirmed that Zombies are coming to a Modern Warfare title.

Speaking in terms of Call of Duty 2023, the introduction of Zombies will definitely add a refreshing flavor for the players. Especially for those who have always dreamt of such a crossover. As always, Treyarch is reportedly handling the part of creating content on Zombies for this year’s premium game.

It is expected the studio will use all of its Black Ops experience to ‘bring the undead to life’ in a Modern Warfare entry. However, the developer’s approach might change this time.

Black Ops is known for its iconic round-based Zombies mode. Every installment from Treyarch, since 2010, has featured this mode for the players. Not to mention that it’s been highly popular too. Hence, one should assume the studio won’t bring it to MWIII, in order to keep it a separate experience for Call of Duty 2024.

Going by the leaks so far, Outbreak is the mode that will make its way to Sledgehammer’s game. It was initially dropped in 2020’s Black Ops Cold War. The mode involves a large, open-world map where players need to survive Zombies and make a successful extraction. In Modern Warfare III, Treyarch may reveal a new version of Outbreak, according to speculations.

Doing so will be a great move as well. Treyarch will be able to reserve the round-based mode of Zombies for its own game next year. On the other hand, offering an Outbreak 2.0 to MW fans will provide them with unique content to enjoy until the launch of CoD 2024.
