While responding to the U.S. FTC (Federal Trade Commission), Activision recently presented an interesting point to assure those concerned that Microsoft won’t make Call of Duty franchise Xbox exclusive. Per the publisher, such a decision will backfire in a major way and won’t be beneficial at all. So the players owning PlayStation need not worry for the series’ fate after the $68.7 billion deal.

Making Call of Duty Xbox exclusive will result in extreme player backlash, according to Activision

Xbox maker Microsoft made most of the people stunned earlier this year, when it announced a record-breaking deal with the publisher of Crash Bandicoot and World of Warcraft. As it was expected, however, the ambitious partnership has invited all kinds of troubles in the last few months. In simple words, a numerous regulatory agencies have expressed their objections on this deal.

As of now, United States’ Federal Trade Commission is perhaps the biggest roadblock, standing in the way of Microsoft and Activision’s merger. It has come out with different reasons so far in order to prove why this deal will give enormous power to the Xbox making company. Also that a very popular franchise like Call of Duty may end up becoming an Xbox-only IP going forward.

But Activision has refuted such concerns, in its recently revealed response to FTC (reported by CNBC). In fact, the publisher has tried to emphasis on the argument that making Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox will only result in a huge loss. Because there are many players who are on Sony’s PlayStation. And that they won’t likely change their consoles in order to keep playing the games of this series.

In other words, the reactions from the fans will be highly negative in case such a hypothetical scenario occurs, according to the publisher. “The player backlash from making the Call of Duty franchise Xbox-exclusive would be devastating. It would destroy the trust Xbox has fostered with garners, leading frustrated garners to vote with their wallets and shift their attention away from Xbox offerings,” reads the statement from Activision in its response.

Furthermore it also added that “making Call of Duty exclusive is not a plausible outcome” simply because players have got other, unlimited alternatives as well. This argument makes a lot of sense given that most of the market share is captured by non-Xbox consoles right now.
