While Sony is still leaving no stone unturned in preventing the deal between Microsoft and Call of Duty publisher Activision from happening, the situation appears to be in favor of the Xbox maker. At least that’s what the recent development is indicating. There’s good news coming for the proposed merger that was announced more than a year ago.

Going by the latest reports, the European Union may end up approving the merger of Microsoft and Activision. It looks like the Xbox maker’s move to offer the rivals licensing deals (for COD) may have worked in its favor. The big update was recently shared by a reputed media outlet.

In case anyone missed keeping track of events, Microsoft announced its proposed acquisition of the COD publisher in January 2022. Not to mention that this news shook the gaming industry. Moreover, it resulted in PlayStation maker Sony going full throttle against the record-setting deal to have it blocked by the majority of the regulators.

But now it looks like Activision will likely end up merging with Xbox Game Studios. That’s because of the newest report that reportedly reveals that the European Union is expected to approve the $68.7 billion deal. The decision of the EU will come on April 25th, 2023.

Another interesting thing to note is that Microsoft won’t have to sell any of its assets in order to secure the approval from European Union. But it will need to assure other parties regarding their concerns over the deal. Well, that won’t be difficult for the Xbox maker, going by its constant efforts to complete the acquisition at any cost.

Last month, Microsoft had announced its 10-year deal with Nintendo to offer Call of Duty games on future consoles from the Japanese giant. In case the deal is finished, fans will see COD entries arriving on portable Nintendo devices as well, alongside mainstream consoles like PlayStation, PC, and the Xbox.
